Marines won standup and weapons fighting, but UFC fighters beat the marines at grappling. What do you think?

I think it's normal if one martial art specializes in one thing more than the other. UFC fighters don't use knives or firearms in the octagon. Of course they'll lose.

They were using escrima sticks, pikes, and wooden bayonettes. not firearms.

Well, weapons are weapons. Marines are trained to use them.

I'm trained to mastery in five different basic traditional martial arts weapons. I would have beaten the Marines in stick fighting.

I don't think a professional martial artist has much excuse not knowing how to use melee weapons for street self defense at least.

I'm unfair. My instructor used to train marines at... quantico... he's a 9th degree black belt in two very different martial arts styles and a Grand Master at escrima stick fighting.
