Is karate a sport? Is it a male or female sport?

As a female who does karate I'm just wondering if there are any other girls (or guys) out there who have an opinion.

I don't think karate is a male or female sport. It is for any gender who likes to have fun, get good exercise, and learn important self-defense skills. 🙂 All that said, I actually think it is especially important for girls and women to learn self-defense since there are a lot of jerky guys out there and women need to know how to defend themselves!

Kara-te or "Empty Hand" is a martial art developed in Okinawa, Japan, and an Olympic sport, debuted in 2021, and open to BOTH genders. It is not all that unusual for girls to martial arts.

Yoon Bo-mi (actress, singer, best known as member of KPop APink) was trained in the martial art of Taekwondo from the age of five and is a holder of a third degree black belt.

It is definitely a sport, and my first karate sensei is a woman. There were many girls in my class. One, the highest rank in the class, even had a black belt. Women have the right to defend themselves.

It was once a way of life. Now it’s been transformed into some kind of p*ssy-R-us. At least that’s how it is in America. You’re only chance now of getting taught real karate is if you go to Asia a look for a retired Sensei

of course it's a sport. too physical not to be. it's an anybody-sport. Lots more girls seem to be taking those kind of classes these days. Maybe they just want a chance to kick guys without getting in trouble. haha

Yeah it's a sport, and I don't think any sport is gender-specific (there aren't any that come to mind at least).
