It's been a long time (1986) since Argentina won the World Cup, and it was Lionel Messi's last chance, since he's retiring. So, it was a fitting ending. Plus, the Argentine economy is in bad shape with near 100% inflation, so it was good that Argentinians could have some happiness. The subbing and crying were tears of happiness, not sadness.
