Sociologists have studied this question and the similarities between modern sport and religion are staggering.
Stadiums are temples
Hall of Fame is a shrine
Rituals of sports - tailgate, facepainting, uniforms, national anthem, halftime, hat tricks, 7th inning stretch, are communal expressions of faith.
Athletes are revered class while then fans function as laity.
Draft is an act of prophecy
Owners are villains / evil / wrong
Calendar revolves around sports
High holy days like Super Bowl, the Masters, "World" Series
Winners receive sacred relics like the Stanley Cup, banners up high & rings of achievements
There are junior leagues like NCAA, minors, where they study to transcend to the next plane
The rulebooks are sacred texts and discussed furiously with a distinct bias to stasis
I used to do a examination of this when I taught sociology and the kids always loved it!
Number 1. And I don't mean professional sports. I watch a couple hours a week of MMA and nothing else. I mean participating in sports. It's the single most important thing we can do to protect our health. Mental and physical. I coach sports throughout the year, and I play/participate as often as possible. Tennis, pickleball, soccer, martial arts, gym, biking, jogging, etc... multiple times a day most days.
I was born with shit genetics and have already outlived the average life expectancy I would have. I owe my life to sports and other athletic activities.
I sport 4 to 5x /wk. Climbing, gym and obstacle runs
About as far at the bottom as you can get.
Sports are like the heartbeat of my day; imagine a life without that rush of adrenaline! Tennis, for instance, is not just a game but a lifestyle for me. It shapes my routines, my nutrition, and even my mental health. When I hit the court, every concern fades awayâit's my sanctuary. Everyone has their own priorities, but for me, sports rank pretty high because they offer both physical and emotional well-being. What about you? Do you have activities that make you feel this way?

Sports arenât a priority to me whatsoever , most girlsâ I have dated loved that I didnât care much for sports lol I enjoy watching them from time to time , but itâs something I can easily go without. Honestly , feel most of it is rigged and set up , for marketing and money basically. I have watched so many bullshit rigged games to the point it doesnât really matter to me anymore. Most of it is like watching the WWE , Sports Entertainment. donât have anything against other people liking sports , just doesnât appeal to me that much
In my youth I played a lot of sports. I was very athletic and did very well winning many trophies and medals across a myriad of sports. That said I don't watch any organized sports, buy any of their merchandise or tickets in adult life because the professional leagues are all woke political propaganda. Sports at high levels are nothing more than a brainwash tool. I still watch certain alternative sports on youtube that don't push a woke agenda.
I like sports... I play them, I watch them on TV
they're part of my life, yes... but to see them as something sacred? no way, lol... I've never been about it like that
it's great, and it is entertaining, but I would not have them as a priority over other things that are more important and rewarding to me, certainly not above people
Pretty high. I think it represents a great source of achievement, provides discipline, and generally lets people forget about the difficulties of life for a short time.
The older I get, the more I appreciate the chance to blow off some steam.
I've been a Chicago Bulls fan for 30 years. I'm still as much as a fan as I've ever been. But after 30 years. There's always another season. So i just love the game the basketball. But at the end of the day it is just a game. You think Zach Lavine cares about what I think of his foot injury or Lonzo Ball's knee? No.🤣
Physical fitness is very high on my priority list. I have worked out, played sports and been into it my entire life.
Sports as a spectator however is a zero out of 10 to me. I have no interest in it at all.
I don't watch sports like football or basketball though watch them 8f my dad is watching them.
Pro sports, not on the list. Running and surfing, high.
It ranks high, but it is not essential to my life.
Fun to watch sometimes.
I have never liked sports
I play soccer 2-3 times a week!
I have higher priorities
Sports is my lifestyle
I know it has an S at the end but that is all.
