Your American but the way it works here is that soccer team support depends largely on the area you are born into and maybe the team your father supported. I know there's a lot of Man U fans upset with the Glazers taking over a winning team and running it into the ground but they still support MAN U even though it would be easier to support Man City.

Usually most teams in English soccer have at least one rivial team in the same city so Manchester United & Manchester City, Liverpool FC has Everton Fc, Chelsea has Arsenal, QPR, Fulham, spurs etc.
