How does TikTok know the state I live in?

I recently downloaded Tik Tok to see what it was all about, but as soon as I get into the app the first recommendations of videos are all relating to the state I live in. I’m a bit creeped out. How does it know where I’m from when I didn’t put the information in?

It knows a 5 block size area where you live. If your GPS was on, it knows EXACTLY where you are.

You can change it by using an VPN and turning off GPS
