Customized how? Did you get rid of Google entirely?

@Unit1 Custom rom to get rid of google, custom bootloader at times, but even a customized modem. The OnePlus 3T modem does not support VoLTE in my country, so I modded the modem to support it.

I am interested in actually de-googling my phone. Could you consult me for a moment?
I have a OnePlus 9 Pro.
I hesitated to do this because (1) i've never done it and (2) i don't know if it will render my phone unusable e. g. the device can't detect my camera or whatever.

How did you do it? Can you keep using the hardware like out of the box after getting rid of google? With camera and all that stuff.

I can give you some pointers but it is high risk if you screw up.
So first of all you need to do a bit of homework, like does your OnePlus 9 still have something like msmdownloadtool to unbrick it in dire situations? (This can make your situation much worse so you need proper tutorials). Do some research on making backups of the EFS, and in my OnePlus 3T's case the persist partition. And basically backup the things that you can not recover because they are unique to your phone.

Once you have information on those things you can begin downloading a rom like /e/ for your phone, and find a good tutorial on how to flash it. But always make sure you know how to undo all the changes your doing in case you change your mind.

And pay close attention to what your doing and if everything matches, if you accidentally do something that was meant for a different phone model your no longer going to be able to use it if it overwrites something important.

That's what's been holding me back. I ain't ready to risk bricking this piece and having to waste another 500 EUR. At least not while I'm broke.

Looks like I've got some research to do then. However those videos on youtube may show like how to apply a different OS on the phone but they don't show, that the device actually works like with wifi, bluetooth, camera and so on.

What is /e/ and EFS?

@Unit1 /e/ is one of the more polished degoogled rom's that will have some essential things like an app store and notifications working. The EFS is the encrypted file storage, it has stuff unique to your phone. Without it you loose cellular.

Things working with wifi, bluetooth, camera, etc is usually mentioned on the page of the rom your choosing. Depends on the phone, from the looks of it support of that is fine in /e/ for you.

Alright, so i need to backup my EFS. Is that all i need to backup?

I'm looking for a ROM that is as closely similar to Graphene OS ( no Google, privacy, security) as possible. Currently i found nothing like it but the privacy community ( at least in privacytools. io ) recommended Lineage OS and CalyxOS.

What kind of app store has /e/? Is it google playstore or something similar but absolutely without google? I know of APKpure ( the one i use but its full of unskipable ads), Aurorastore ( Haven't tried it) and F-droid but F-droid doesn't offer the apps found on the playstore.

@Unit1 They have their own App Lounge which can optionally be logged in with a google account so you have the google play store apps but with your account isolated to just that app. F-droid's apps are also in there.
