What's the weirdest or dumbest thing internet invented?

Has to be porn in my opinion. The world would've been so great without it. These TikTok influence is just as stupid. There are definitely lot more worse, maybe but that's all I can think now.

Porn has been around for over 50+ years, man. You never heard of Deepthroat or Debbie Does Dallas? Those are from the 1970s. I think I’ve heard of stuff going as far back as the 1920s. As long as there have been cameras, people fucked in front of them, haha. I agree the Internet makes it much more accessible, but we didn’t have the internet til the end of high school, and everything loaded so slowly at first that it wasn’t easy to watch porn on the internet til the early 2000s. I feel like maybe 2003 was when it took off for real. But make no mistake, we had a steady supply of porn on VHS tapes being traded around my high school in the 90s, haha. It was just more embarrassing to obtain as an adult because you had to get it at some seedy adult store, and I think the big fear was to be recognized walking in/out or someone seeing your car in the parking lot. I missed that era, just barely, but I went to an adult store right after I turned 18…. and one of the teachers from my high school was there, so we all bolted out. And then we watched him come sprinting out a couple minutes later from my buddy’s car across the street, with a brown paper bag under his arm😂😂😂 He definitely knew he had been spotted, but maybe not sure by who exactly, lmfao. Anyway…. porn was made accessible by the internet, but certainly didn’t invent it.

I think social media is a killer, honestly. It has its pros. But the cons are bad. Humans are more often than not idiots, and this allows idiots to communicate with other idiots they previously never would have interacted with, with ultimate ease and speed, allowing them to transfer mis- and dis-information amongst one another, unregulated and with no fact checks, further cementing the idea that what, in reality is complete and utter bullshit, is cold hard fact, and strengthens their resolve, and that is simply fucking DANGEROUS. People are losing their minds, at least here in America, over straight up fallacies, but so many people are able to say it that that lends perceived credibility to absolutely crazy claims.

dumbest is wikipedia that "anybody can edit" and despite that still pretends to be a valid source of information.

at least britanicca online, visitors can't change, only management but see other problem below.

in the "old days" we had paper encyclopedias, 1, researchers were hired based on expertise and 2, peer review for quality... but wikipedia "any visitors" can have "edit wars" about narratives and agendas. 3, management has private company agenda! 4, paper can't be changed for updated agendas! a problem even in britannica online.

but wikipedia... opposite of experts even i can edit, and if i team up, we can win an edit war and get the true guys blocked if repeat 3 times.

if wikipedia is wrong or has agenda it is worse than any one person saying a mistake, because it pretends to be a "reliable source pedia". as i will elaborate. if it has mistake or intentionally wrong information it pretends to be reliable! and with footnotes... it will copy from "britannicca accessed a certain date" the day the biased guy changed britanicca beford it got changed back!

we can go directly to wikipedia's source the britanicca... instead of wikipedia!

the most obvious to notice is: compared area of u. s. to china. compare paper books to online sources!

if a person is wrong, no big deal we expect that, and do not ignore them forever due to a mistake, because we expect mistakes but for a private company pretending to be reliable source, and with whatever agenda! and anybody can edit, to add or hide information, is not only risky but got caught, so we must avoid such wikipedia that pretends to be reliable. wikipedia as above, that is the dumbest trick and the worst.

The Internet did not invent porn. Porn has existed for centuries, the Internet is just the latest form of porn.

The weakest thing the Internet has "created" is instant news. Things that are reported as they happen, without any sense of journalistic truth... often misleading and sometimes just totally wrong.

I was taking a English comp course in college just as the internet became widely available. We were told we could cite web references in our papers but to be careful about the source.
