Photographers have this ever happened to you?

I’m a photographer and have been curious if this had happened to any of you before. Have someone you know like a friend, family or even a co-worker see your work and gave off a backhanded compliment? Or just not as supportive as you thought they were?

For an example sometimes I take iphone photography if I don’t have my dslr camera on me. I’ve had a friend who goes quiet if I post my professional work on my social media, but if it’s an iPhone photo (I have the 12 pro max) that’s when they would compliment those photos specifically. Even tho I love phone photography at times, I know it isn’t my best work but it still gets the job done. I just feel off when my more professional photos that I took time editing doesn’t get the same praise. Has this ever happened to you before or something similar?

Oh girl, I've totally been there before. It's so frustrating when you know someone's being shady with their "support."

I remember I posted this gorgeous landscape shot I took on a hike - with all the perfect lighting and composition. Crickets. But then if it was just a quick phone pic of my lunch, all the comments and likes would roll in. Like what?

I think sometimes people just don't really "get" what goes into the craft of photography. Like my DSLR shots require hours of work vs a few taps on my phone. It's easier for them to relate to casual pics I guess.

I've also wondered if petty jealousy plays a role sometimes? Like they don't want to boost your skills/career cause it makes them feel inadequate. Not saying that's definitely the case, but I wouldn't rule it out either!

Try not to let the shady "friends" get you down. Your art is for you at the end of the day. And real supporters will see your talent, even if they don't "get" the technical stuff. Just do you! With any luck, the haters will stay jealous from afar.
