Is it me or is it my OS or mouse or USB ports?

I seem to click on stuff and then nothing happens, and then I gotta click on it again. I've tried changing priority of explorer. exe to High, but that doesn't entirely resolve it. This issue never happened to me when I was on Windows 10 (currently on 11) or when I use other computers. I also noticed that when my laptop is plugged in, this issue goes away too strangely enough.

OK you need to partition the problem.

As it is an easy test even though it doesn't seem to a mouse problem, I'd be inclined to change the mouse if you can borrow one. I had to cycle through three old mice to get one that worked recently.

It could be a USB power supply problem - do you have a lot of USB devices attached? Go down to just the mouse if so. You say it doesn't happen when the lap top is plugged in, so that is why I am thinking that way. Don't know the W11 power settings but you could look at those and go for performance.

The mouse should be interrupt driven (though I don't know) so I wouldn't expect changing priorities for explorer to do much as you have found..

How long is the battery lasting from full charge? Again because the problem disappears when you plug in, it is sounding like it is a power problem.

Well you're on an outdated OS that was officially discontinued in 2020 by Microsoft, and then early last year by Google (along with everyone else relying on Chromium), so I can't exactly follow your advice

Ah. So no sharp divide. Does the builtin mouse show the same issue or is this with the builtin mouse or is it a wireless mouse? Because it is so easy to do, borrowing a USB mouse is a good quick diagnostic.

I'm tired of giving MS money and have stood up a linux laptop but got to resolve a Zoom issue before I retire Windows completely.

it sounds like a hardware issue. Start with using a different mouse. Another thing you can try is make sure Windows updates is current. something else to try is to go into Device Manager and delete the mouse and reinstall it.

Something else it could be is malware. Run a scan. I use Malware Bytes.

You could start it in safe mode and try the mouse. If it works fine there is another device that is stepping on the mouse.
