Is it weird that I like using candles at night to save money on electricity?

Some people think I am being cheap but its not the only reason I do it. I really do like using candles and I really see not point in having so much electricity wasted in the house. And with just the candles being lit in my house it makes it so much easier to sleep. I never understood how people can sleep with the light on.

I don’t think it’s “weird”, but it is unusual in that context. Lots of people enjoy candles, but i don’t think many use them for the purpose of using less electricity. I keep some around for power outages and i prefer scented candles to aerosol air fresheners in the bathroom. I wouldn’t leave candles burning while i sleep though. That’s pretty dangerous.

we make our houses out of some really flammable shit here. we can't really fall asleep with them lit. i have some plug in night lights that do just fine. candles are expensive and don't last long. it could be about the same price?

How are you saving money? Electricity only costs pennies a KW. On the other hand candles are expensive. I haven't seen any around here for less then a dollar and those are small ones.

You might want to get a solar lantern. Set it outside during the day and bringing it at night.

I don’t think it’s weird at all, that you enjoy the ambiance and mood. As a means of replacing electric lighting, for the goal of cost reductions, that is a little weird, .. actually, it’s completely insane. I imagine that the ‘savings’ would be negligible, if not non existent.
If you really want to save electric costs, switch all you lights (if you haven’t already done so) to LEDs. That alone will save you real $$, that way you could leave all your lights on all the time (as a thought experiment) and know that you’re only paying 11cents a year, per bulb.
Also, unplug appliances if you can when not in use, and get efficient energy rated ones if you can. OR, install a few solar panels. Your electric bill will be effectively zero.

PS) Hope those candles are beeswax! Beeswax candles are the ONLY candles you should be burning— they are natural and provide ionizing action to clean the air, and full spectrum warm light—as opposed to your everyday scented candle or tea light—those are contributors to indoor pollution, give off chemicals and black soot when burned, and are mainly made of paraffin, which is a petroleum by product (not to mention all the additional chemicals you’re freebasing when those artificial candles are embedded within artificial scent chemicals! Truly a witches toxic brew)

For me the maths don’t add up , it’s more expensive to burn a candle compared to using an LED bulb ( in my home )


Putting that aside though , candles are great mood setters so the cost may be made less by the benefits offered 😉😉

Not the electricity where I love. The lights are hardly on and my bill will be like $120 a month

I guess it’s all relative , my electric bill is double that but the led lights are dirt cheap to run. They are 0.3p per hour to have on and provide a wealth of light.. the candle equivalent for the cheapest candle 🕯️ I could buy would cost between 20p and 40p per hour and give of more heat than light as well as potentially causing a fire. But candles are nice and my lady loves them lit , so there’s some trade off 😉😇

Ah I see I could do that. Where do you get these led lights? Or do you mean the ones that are like dim that you can install inside the house?

Just anywhere I’d get bulbs from , a department store , hardware store or of course online via Amazon etc … we changed from the incandescent/ traditional bulbs 💡 years ago because those are about 2p per hour but still cheaper than a candle 🕯️. And yes I can dim them in some rooms via dimmer switch or wherever they are the smart bulbs that are controlled via Alexa / app
