My score as a translator is 74 or High Risk. Not that I didn't know that already, the trend is clear, but the evolution has been much quicker than anticipated.

What about your job? Are you safe or do you expect a big change? I think the key is to reinvent oneself, take advantage of current technology and let it do the tedious tasks.

No one is entitled to a job.

If your job is threatened by technology then you have to adapt and change. It's been that way all through human history.

If we worried about people and their jobs we would not have railroads or assembly lines or telephones or cars or airplanes or radio or television or satellites or space exploration or video recorders or computers or e-mail or the internet or cell phones or streaming, or thousands of other things that are part of our daily lives. Each one of these innovations put thousands or millions of people out of work because something else did it better. That kind of progress is never, ever going to stop. AI is not the enemy, it is just one more link in that chain of continuing evolution.

My $300 Airpods can translate any conversation I have with anyone in the world, in real time, and they can hear what I'm saying in their language. My laptop and phone can do the same thing. That technology is only going to get better. You have to be aware of these kinds of changes in your own industry and make yourself ready for the change that will be necessary. The world is not going to stop or change because you want to keep your job.

If you still want to stay in the translation business, then find a spot within your industry that can't be replaced by technology. The CIA, as one example, will use translation technology, and are using it now, but they will never do without human translators, and translators to verify what the translators are saying. The stakes are too high. Find (or create) situations like that to keep your career going.

Thanks. I work more with translation agencies than with direct clients. Direct clients rarely value your work and are always in a hurry. Agencies know how much time it takes to deliver a quality translation. Problem is they have also 'discovered' automated translation, or in other words, they know when an automated translation delivers acceptable results and when it doesn't. So I get more and more projects where the agency only asks for a revision of a pre-translated text. That cuts my monthly income by more than half.

As you say, I need to evolve with the market opportunities and find a niche where humans still add value.

Technically no job is "under threat" by robots. But every job is under threat due to greedy CEO's

Also, automation and robotics create a new unresolvable set of problems, that a purely human work force doesn't have.

The current war with Iran is going to cause shortages in metals, energy, and manufacturing - three key components for robots.

Things are going to get worse, not better. So I wouldn't worry too much.

I am an educator. I know that teaching will soon be automated. On line courses could be done with AI. Once that happens and brick and mortar schools do not do anything to reduce tuitions that will be the end of college as we know it.

Possibly robots will become a great aid in my job but I don't think they will replace it completely. They will never be able to replace the relationship I build with my animals that is characterised by human warmth and bonding between living beings.

Robots gonna destroy themselves honestly. It cost too much money to keep them repaired. Plus they stay broke all the time. Lets use Waymo for example lol
