What comes to your mind first when you think about Slovakia?

I had a scam artist who I don't know if he was from Slovakia or not, but he said he was.
He was running a scam saying he was coming from Slovakia with his 6 year old son and needed childcare and would pay me for a month of work, plus a daily stipend to take care of his son while he was doing business here in California.
He laid out everything, dates and all. But then when the time was coming close he told me he had an emergency and there was some difficulty with the hotel or bank or something and he was asking me to front the money for some expenses and that he would sort it out when he arrived. I kind of knew at that point that it was a scam since that's totally unprofessional and no person who has a business and has their act together would ever ask something like that of someone they hired. But I played along a little and told him to talk to his bank, or one of his credit card companies, or some other financial institution.
I kind of messed with him a little. Since I am a business owner and financially independent as well, I started to ask him if he didn't have any credit cards, or if he didn't have a bank account, or a business account, or any other resources.
Anyhow, that's Slovakia with me.
That and I feel like I have seen some beautiful Slovakian women perhaps? Are they known for being beautiful?
Yes they are. Usually it's like the first thing foreign guys say lol
I think in general Eastern European women are more beautiful.
I always wonder what happened to the Czech part, like what happened that split your country up? Was it ethnic, religious, ideological? It always fascinates me, the satellite countries of the soviet union that gained independence, and then further fractured from there. It takes a lot of balls to stand up to the USSR, so I think I get it.
Like they combined into one entity for strength while there was a Soviet Union, and then dissolved as that strength wasn't needed anymore with the fall of the Soviet Union and rise of the Russian Federation.
Besides my assumptions, I would figure your knowledge would be much greater there, you know?
It was really a political decision. Common people actually didn't want the country to split. Another reason could be the velvet revolution (demonstrations against Communist party) which happened few years before we became two separate countries. The breakup is also the only peaceful one in Eastern bloc.
Ok, so part of the country wanted to retain elements of communism/socialism, and other parts wanted to embrace capitalism wholly, then the country split into two entities to avoid a civil war over that?
That makes sense, also looking at their neighbors and how many of them fractured under protests because of corruption, suppression, so on and so forth, yeah, I think I get the general idea.
Thanks :)
Outside Europe, most people still believe that the Czech Republic and Slovakia are still together as Czechoslovakia. If you ask them about Slovakia, they'll ask you if you mean Czechoslovakia.
Beyond that, there's almost nothing they know, except the fact that it was once communist (many people still believe Eastern Europe and Russia are still communist) and is Slavic. For them, Slavic means everything between the Czech Republic and Russia. They frequently mix up all the places here. For example, one person I know said Slovakia has vampires. No, you're thinking of Romania (not that there are vampires in Romania either). They also know that most countries in the region have names ending in -ia. I think that ends the extent of their knowledge. At least this is my experience.
When I think of Slovakia, the first thing that comes to my mind is the movie "Hostel". lol
It was a movie shot in Slovakia.
I heard it is a beautiful country.
Other than that, I have no idea about Slovakia.
Actually it was shot in Czech republic, not in Slovakia

If I'm not mistaken your country is a member of the 4 nation Visegrad Group, along with the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. I admire those countries very much for standing up to the EU and wanting to preserve their national character and way of life.
I'm from Poland, so Slovakia is my neighbour. I think our nations like each other pretty much, Slovaks I've met were generally nice people. I've been to Slovakia a few times passing through, and I remember Bratislava (their capital) impressed me. It seems to be a really beautiful city, I'd like to visit it for real one day.
Ohh beautiful country I have always wondered and wanted to visit Slovakia and I am really interested in its amazing natural beauty with castles, mountains, nature and historical places. And I really like your flag which seems really cute to me :) Good question :) Slovakia is great :)
It reminds me that the Czechoslovakia that I knew when I was growing up doesn’t exist anymore. Anywhere that’s not the same country as it was in 1995, I might slip up. I forget there’s no Yugoslavia anymore either, and I forget all the former USSR countries that are independent of Russia now.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/ebLpn6uVRd4Don't know nothing about the country. All i know is when i was like 8-12 all are primary schools were full with Slovakian's for some reason then they all went back home i am guessing. Since none of them were in the high schools. The male Slovakian's were short but always tried to start a fight. Then well i had a crush on of the girls, she was a bad influence on me tho lol. At least i think they were slovakians tbh i could be wrong but it's the name i remembered them all been from.
One of those eastern European countries next to Scarlett Witch's country, but not Transylvania (Romania) or "Little Iraq" (Turkey). (And yes, I know Sokovia isn't real. It just looks close to the other country on paper. Almost all of the same letters.)
i guess u never been to Turkey lmao. look at the pictures then. I went to Turkey many times and Turkey is a beautiful exotic country it has nothing to do w Iraq
Meaning no offense, it is one of those various small, central European nations you know very little about due to their minuscule part in history so I couldn't tell you. The ones I know most about are Bulgaria due to their history in medieval times, Albania due to their part in WWI and Serbia due to the ethnic wars.
Beautiful towns & forests, Skii Resort - Jasná❤😍, Andy Warhol - Artist parents were born there & he was if I am not mistaken? Booze - Borovička lol. People were awesome.
I don't know much about Slovakia other than that it's an Eastern Bloc nation with Ukraine to the east and Poland to the north. It was part of Czechoslovakia until World War 2 and it is home to the Tatra Mountains.
I know that it is a neighbor to Austria, where my father is from.
And that you apparently have tiny towels?
That's about it, lol.
I follow Italian Football, so Slovakian footballers come to mind like Hamsik, Kucka and Škriniar 😁
Yes I like that our sportsmen are making Slovakia a good name abroad!
Besides beer, the first thing is CZ firearms. I have an CZ-75, which is one of my favorite 9mm pistols. Beyond good beer and fine firearms, the Škoda Works ( Škodovy závody). After that... good looking women.
my friend's from there, it used to be part of czechoslovakia & part of the soviet union i think but it's in the eu now
i feel like slovakia is the little sister of russia. people look like russians. and alcohol. people drink alcohol more than water idkk i don't have information about this country I just guessed lol

Beautiful country, less people but good people.

Gorgeous blonde girls. But... as a guy we have to be careful. Those gorgeous women could be searching for a husband to bring them to America. After 2 years the guy would be divorced and heart broken.
I don't know much to be honest, I only know that they were once one nation with Czech Republic and it was called Czechoslovakia.
A friend of mine who is originally from there.
Not much else to think about since I haven't actually been there, and it's obscure enough that there aren't any widespread stereotypes.
Right now? First Prime Minister to quit over Covid.
Otherwise: Food, Castles, Caves, Taverns
I mean Caverns 😂
I'm unsure if I've visited because when I still travelled with parents they went on an eastern European couple years. That said if I did it has good cheap food and alchohol, attractive women and basic men.
My ancestral home. The origin of my last name. A beautiful country i want to visit one day. We could be cousins for all we know!! 😄
Most Americans won't know if it's a country or a city or the name of a river much less be able to find it on a map.
Knights Templar was my first thought when I open your page I don't know what that means but that's the first thing
Cold beautiful Mountain View green country

This one chick who was in my Oral Communications class in college was from there. Odd that I remember that all these years later, isn't it?
I don't know much about your country, and everything I've heard has been in the context of war crimes. So... I guess I think "ethnic cleansing?"
"Ethnic cleansing "? WTF?
She talk about Slovakia , not Africa.

You talk about Yugoslavia and Kossovo I guess?
It was right after WWII , 1946 something

The dull version of Czech Republic that not many people visit and how many people confused them with Slovenia
I also heard that many people in Slovakia are rude and closed off
It's the home country of the Orange Shitstain's wife. I could say more but I'll leave it at that.
That's Slovenia.
If you don't like Orangeman send him here we are being tormented by these illegal immigrant terrorists branded as refugees and asylum seekers.
A Pride perserved and so beautiful country surrounded with its wonderfull Tatras. ❤

Have you ever heard about the country tho?
A bunch of grumpy locals who do whatever they can to keep tourists from coming to their country.
How many people will confuse it for Slovenia🤣🤣
I am not familiar with this country.
I never heard of it TBH!!! Sorry.
It's like a poorer Slovenia?
I think of our Czechoslovakian brothers.
Peaceably separated from the Czech Republic.
