Hejsan, Have you ever been or considered travelling to Scandinavia?
If so why or why not?
Hejsan, Have you ever been or considered travelling to Scandinavia?
If so why or why not?
I HAVE. I actually visited Copenhagen for a few hours when I missed a connecting flight. I used to be more interested in Scandinavia when I was younger. I wanted to visit Sweden from Poland a couple times, but it never worked out.
But now I see the only places in Scandinavia I'd like to visit are Norway, Bornholm and the Faroe Islands. And Greenland would be cool if you consider that Scandinavia. Actually, now that I think of it, I don't wanna rule it out completely. I think Oland, Gotland and Ystad would be interesting to visit and some of the runestones. Denmark, MAYBE. But I wouldn't plan an entire trip around it.
Until VERY recently, I wanted to go to Iceland, but after seeing how expensive it is, I decided it isn't worth it, as I've seen the same kind of geology in the U. S. But I told myself I wanna visit every country in Europe so it's kind of inevitable, but since it's not something worth doing a special trip over and you can't really pair it with another country, I probably won't get there anytime soon. Maybe I would go if I find a really good deal.
Sweden, I'm still kinda interested in the places I mentioned above, but I wouldn't plan an entire trip around Sweden.
The only Scandinavian country that really interests me and I feel is worth visiting properly is Norway. I'm not ruling the region out, but at the moment I am more interested in visiting places that have more to offer than just buildings lakes.
But I do like Scandinavia in the sense that it seems more civilized then other parts of the world. Like I heard you don't have to worry about tourist scams. But I've heard a lot of people complain that the region has lost its charm because of the Muslims.
Muslim immigrants are an issue in all of western Europe, but I do not think travelling has to do with visiting a ethniccally pure country. Even Japan is not pure, they still have 2% non Japanese.
So, only a few places like Tibet and Japan are very mono ethnic in 2023, Eastern Europe is not ethnically pure but does not have Muslim immigration issues.
You're right that no place is 100% pure, but the immigrants in Japan are minuscule and have no significant influence on the local culture.
If someone is paying big money to go somewhere, it's understandable that they want to experience the indigenous culture.
The Balkans are a different scenario because they've been that way for centuries.
But nevermind the Muslims. But do you think of the places I mentioned and what I said?
Seems like nice places I only know Copenhagen, Bornholm, Gotland and Ystad as you mentioned. Of course, I do know OSlag (the capital of Norway) Torshavn and Tórshavn (the capital of the Faroe Islands)
Nice places, but all very different.
I have to add to this - and not to tick anyone off since I have nothing against such people (I am not against anyine in fact, just against crime),
When we say Muslims - there are two topics problematic:
- Multiwife marriage (polygyny) - though agreements made to female's preferences are presumably legitimate
- The topic of hygyene - it isn't religion anyone gets uoset about, but bad hygene and safety habits that lead to infections and accidents.
I have met a few white blue eyed muslims (probably more than a few) and thought they were awesome people, with very few differences to me.
Yeah. My dad strongly identified with his Finnish heritage. So i’ve always wanted to visit Finland. The entire region is gorgeous, from what i’ve seen in pictures and video. Iceland is interesting to me. Despite its reputation, i’d like to see the Faroe Islands too.
Technically Scandinavia is Denmark, Norway, and Sweden only. So neither Finland, Iceland nor the Faroe Islands. However, I take it as one of the Nordic countries, this will includes all :)
You are mistaken.

Your link is wrong I am afraid. It's only the 3 countries I mentioned. It is the Nordic countries listed in the link, however, Scandinavia is Denmark, Sweden and Norway only.
You can google it, I can't post links.
Look at this for clarification: en.wikipedia.org/.../Scandinavia
Scandinavia is traditionally only Denmark, Sweden and Norway, but I've seen enough people that have thought that it includes all of the Nordic countries that I don't even care to correct them anymore ^^ Not like it matters anyway.
@ColHathi Wikipedia. Very reliable source. I think she knows her own region dude.
I can still make an argument for Iceland and the Faroes. Maybe culturally even if not geographically, but Finland is DEFINITELY not part of Scandinavia. Finns aren't even White, they're Mongoloids.
I think someone who lives in Scandinavia is a pretty realiable source on Scandinavian geography.
@KostasKouvalis Well it's a good thing I've lived there my whole life then.
@ColHathi
The origin of the word “Scandinavia” arose in the early 18th century as a result of Danish and Swedish universities championing the shared history, mythology, arts, and culture of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.
The base of the movement was Scania, also known as Skåne, the southernmost province of Sweden; this gave rise to the term “Scandinavia.”
Until 1814, Denmark and Norway were actually united in one kingdom. After that time, Norway and Sweden were under one kingdom, until Norway’s independence in 1905.
However, the Scandinavian Peninsula is made up of only Sweden and Norway, while Most of Denmark is part of continental Europe. However, since Denmark was on half of the original definition, then you can say the Danish dominions at the time (Iceland, Faroe Islands, and Greenland cloud be included by extension), the same can be said of Findland then Swedish territory.
So, anno 2023 Scandinavia is Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, by extension and historically it includes the territory of the same countries so then Finland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands, and Greenland as well. Anno 2023, these are now all defined as the Nordic countries'.
I live in Scandinavia - migrated from Iceland, so I'm technically not from Scandinavia, don't know if that counts.
@Potteplante
Well it's one of the Nordic countries, didn't realise there are other Europeans here. Seems like Americans mostly :)
Yeap, have and will be moving there when financially able.

I have, maybe two years ago, managed to go there (DK, SE, NO and even FI),
Should have 20 years ago when I first was able to from Belgium.
It is a bit less bright/blue eyed filled than I expected, and Stockholm seemed too... inclusive?
The nature (or do we always mean the people when we say 'nature'?) was really lovely, if cold as expected.
I contemplated moving there - I still wonder if I should. The only downsides I could find apart from the cold, were too many... dark eyed matters, who are slow and insist on being in front of all others/always being placed first - especially those from Balkan countries who erroneously assume they are blue eyed and so quicker/faster at everything.
If you are a racist then western Europa is lost, as far as you are concerned.
If you by "It is a bit less bright/blue eyed filled than I expected, and Stockholm seemed too... inclusive" means to refer to immigrants, then all of western Europa is lost to you. You have many immigrants in the Netherlands as well, do you not?
Hygge is Danish, like the pastry :)
Thought about it. Book me a ticket snd I’ll make it work. July and December are rough times for me. I know a girl from Asia who did a year worth of schooling there in an exchange program. I’ve seen lots of pics….
The picture is just one from the internet, it is from Copenhagen (the capital of Denmark, where I am for the time being, although I am Swedish).
Absolutely, born in Sweden, and currently live in Denmark but have friends and have gone to Norway many times as well.
No, not yet, But I have been to Finland and the Faroe Islands. But I plan to go to Iceland, and Greenland as well at some point.
Depends on what you fancy, but a few days in each country/location. 2 weeks will do, longer if you want to go skiing as well.
I have visited Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. Beautiful countries with an interesting history and nice people.
I would like to go. And become acquainted with the Scandinavian ladies.
