If visiting Washington, which city would you rather see?

The Johnston Ridge Observatory which overlooks Mount Saint Helens, an active volcano that was rather active from autumn 2004 to early 2008.

No place on Earth simultaneously awed me and scared the shit out of me like when I went there in June 2005. I realized if that volcano blew like it did in May 1980, I'd be dead.

Just the drive to get there was almost otherworldly - like being in a science fiction / horror film. Few things are upsetting as seeing EVERY TREE knocked over all in the same way with the alignment like a military cemetery. And the stumps of those trees show they weren't cut but that the upper part of the tree broke off. Closer in, the only part of the trees left were the stumps because the upper parts were vaporized.

I've been to both. Seattle more recently but still a while back. I was in Spokane when they hosted the World's Fair in 1974. I'm not a big city person, so Seattle isn't my thing. Spokane isn't all that great either. There are much better places in Washington.

Anyway, I'd probably pick Seattle for a shot visit. Not because I like it, but because I have friends and relatives there I'd like to visit. I have no desire to visit the city for any other reason.

Now that I think about it, both of those cities hosted a World's Fair and I've been to both. The Seattle fair was not during the actual Expo year, but most cities keep at least some of the Expos long after it ends.

Washington state has a lot of natural beauty. That would be my focus on a visit there, not cities.
