I like the color of the water in picture 2, but the people add a lot to the first picture, but the subject matter needs to be framed better.

The canoe should be more to the right edge of the picture, the back6is the main theme, and your mind will automatically know that the canoe is floating on the water so you don't need to show the water behind it, your mind will do that, so the photographer could have turned more counter clockwise to get more of the scenery in the picture.
