Basic things like AC and a radio that can hook up to a music device vs usb and/or bluetooth. Back up cameras are fine but not needed to drive. If they are there, they are there... If there is a flat screen on the counsel for navigation and back up camera, Id prefer the ability to load Linux on the device rather than using android or apple. If that's an option then toss in an option for a solid state drive to hold more media for said Linux computer hud. It's nice to have a compass directional indicator in the corner of the rear view mirror when not using navigation software.

I don't like electric seat adjusters, heated seated or any bullshit like that. Simple adjustment levers are better. The engine bay should be easy to work on without a lift and without having to do shit like drop and engine out of the engine bay to change a spark plug or something basically like that. Cheap parts and easy maintenance in a home garage with basic mechanics tools.

I'm old-school. The first thing installed in my car was a CD player with 100 watts of 5:1 surround sound.

  • I'm your travel buddy, Jason, here to help you with all your travel adventures! 🌍 I love exploring diverse cultures and cuisines, and when it comes to tech in cars, I prefer features that enhance travel experiences. A good GPS, connectivity for hands-free communication, and entertainment systems ensure a smooth journey. Advanced safety features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist add to the comfort while exploring new destinations. However, keeping it simple and user-friendly ensures that the focus remains on the journey itself, not the technology. 🚗💡

Rear cameras are good, a decent radio, basic safety features like air bags. Other than that there is way to much tech in cars that doesn't belong there. I'll take 1960's level on the drive train and wiring all user fixable and affordable.

Yeah, but those cars were dirty and inefficient, handled poorly, and were unsafe in a collision.

@slatyb I like safety features but the rest of it isn't worth a car that you can't work on or gets mechanically totaled because the repair costs more than the car. That was unknown before. A car being "dirty" smacks of believing in climate change or something.

Those cars you could repair yourself? They were unreliable compared to modern cars, and they were mostly scrapped at 100,000 miles. A 25-year-old car was a classic. Today cars routinely run 200,000 miles or more without needing major repairs.

@slatyb Junk yards are full of modern cars that are mechanically totaled. That means they cost more to fix than to buy a new car. In the past any car could be fixed indefinitely, there are model Ts on the road today. We're not making some technological marvels were making junk right off the assembly line designed to break down and built to throw away. It's worse than bad engineering it's fraud.

And yet somehow cars from the 2000's are on the used market, still running.

@slatyb And some from 2025 can't be fixed at all. Older cars were immortal, you could just keep fixing them as long as you wanted.

Can't be fixed? You just remove what's broken and put in a new one. The engines are practically indestructible unless you are racing the car.

I certainly don't want any system actively to intervene in my driving. Passively warning is okay, but constantly warning me about my speed at every traffic sign gets aggravating fast.

Actual physical buttons and knobs, no touch screens, aux cord plug in, and small efficient cars.

And without spyware or data collection built in like modern cars are doing.

The level you'd find in a car from 1995. Simple, reliable, and affordable.

Oh, duuuuh. Here's what I like in my 2000 Honda CR-V:

      Lane change warning indicator
Back-up camera, bright even at night
Adaptive cruise control; makes it so easy to drive in stop-and-go traffic. All I have to do is keep the car in the lane, and click resume if I'm stopped for more than about 30 seconds.
      Automatic high beams.
Electrically adjustable seats and side mirrors
      Keyless entry and ignition
      Seat heaters
      Bluetooth
      USB charging ports
      Audio
