All this bubbling and roiling molten rock comes up to the surface from underground. Are there now caverns where the magma was? Is the eruption merely a matter of heated matter expanding? I understand that there are different kinds of eruptions, but i still don’t fully understand the mechanics of volcanic eruption. Kilauea in Hawaii has been erupting almost constantly for decades. So there’s no time to build up pressure. Stromboli has fairly frequent explosive eruptions. How is that possible?

Lol... to be fair you were in Palermo which is on the exact opposite side to where Etna is. But I do think you missed out on visiting the volcano side seeing that they even have a train that rides all the way through the vineyards along the side of Etna where you could have tasted a lot of wines. Why did you and your friends choose Palermo specifically?
