The big story today in the UK is Scotlands' plan to ban cats. A Scottish Animal Welfare Commission report called for a campaign to promote responsible cat ownership. However, The Daily Mail, in typical far right fashion, twisted it to state Scotland was looking at banning cats.
Scotland has confirmed it has no intention of banning cats. BUT should they? Cats kill millions of wild birds and animals each year, including endangered ones. If they were a wild species, then a cull would be reasonable.
Unlike America, Scotland doesn't have coyotes to keep pet cats under control.
Here also I hear some people complaining about the number of stray cats, too many pigeons, green wild parrots, mice, rats, and the need to place poison on strategic places in order to reduce all those so-called pests. It may seem a little misanthropic on my behalf, but is not humanity the real plague on this planet, humans proliferating at a very alarming rate and waging useless wars?
Who would want to live in a city without a little wild life around? I'm sincerely amazed and in admiration for the resilience of all those despised creatures. Sure there are some problems, but on the other hand, instead of spreading poisons, is there no compromise allowing all to live in reasonable numbers? Cats hunt mainly mice and rats, but these preys being often poisoned, and the cats thus getting sick, they turn in plain logic to birds...
I don't know how to solve all those problems, but what I know is how stupid and egoistic many humans are. I heard some people for instance state that all trees bordering the streets should all be cut down; that all cats and pigeons should be killed; that the little green parrots are not from these regions and should disappear; not to mention mice and rats...
Now, I do agree with the notion of responsible cat ownership, or whatever pet animals involved. Sterilising one's cats may be a reasonable option, and that's what happened to my own cats. But they are still real cats, and thus are free to go in the garden when they want, and the birds seem to know how to handle the situation. By the way, the only few mice I saw here were in the garden or caught by the cats...
Back in the day many moons ago cats were once deemed evil & all the cats at that time were rounded up & exterminated. Long story short the rat population exploded & the black plague spread like a wildfire. If Scotland bans cats history could repeat itself or the unthinkable could happen & Scotland’s plan can backfire.
@NoDecision my friend had a cat that jumped into his car in a Walmart parking lot. He took it home and it preferred to eat rats instead of it's cat food.

I forgot where it was, but someone imported snakes to take care of rats, But instead they found it easier to catch birds, so now the island has no birds, but lots of snakes.
Cat owners should keep cats from harming wildlife. OR reintroduce wolves and disallow fox hunting or pest control to end those feline wrecking balls of fluff that go out and bring in bits of dead or dying wildlife to impress their humans with their prowess.
In Australia its illegal to have cats roaming around , they do do a great deal of damage in the wild , personally I love cats , but they do need to be stopped , for certain , its best to make owners responsible.

Cats are intrinsic furry balls of awesomeness that bring joy to countless people. Call it favoritism but the animals that are most beneficial to people are the ones we keep. Cats are delightful companions that improve people's mental health constantly and bring constant happiness, joy and other things.
Obviously put the birds on an endangered species list but don't do it at the expense of cats.
The story is some wild cats where introduced into the wild illegally, the Scots aren't banning domesticated cats from running free, or that's the story I've heard.
Any cat caught outside without its person twice gets rehomed. Sick to death here of all the people who let their cats be outside killing native songbirds, amphibians, and anything they can catch in droves.
I have a pack of coyotes in my neighborhood along with black bear, bobcats, and fox. I like the coyotes because they took care of some yappy little dogs in my neighborhood. And they help keep the white tail deer population under control. The only time I get pissed at them is when they make a kill at 3AM and the war whoops go on for an hour. There's a game trail that runs right behind my house. Then I'm tempted to go out on my deck with a rifle.
