What do I do if someone really tries to get in?
Which is the best option? a knife or a shovel?
I am no longer a child, my father is not here and I have to become the man of the house.

Trending & News I do this for family and females who are alone, Walmart has these little air horns that are for boat safety. Real cheap and makes very loud blaring noise. Comes in 2 sizes and cheap enough to buy one for each door. The smaller one fits in a pocket or purse. Burglars etc hate noise and light. New LED flood lights last forever, extremely bright, and burns a fraction of electricity. Keep the house well lit outside, etc. I have plenty more suggestions if you need.
Keep a metal rod. It's easier to use than shovel and has a longer range than knife. Using knife might backfire in close range if the person breaking into your house snatches it. Hitting them by a rod from a distance would be a little safer.
