Why dose my ex continue to ask if he can see me , why would that be?

So my ex broke things off around summer of this year. He more so broke up with me. When we had an emotional conversation and shut me down completely. He then said he wanted to be free summer. So i let him go completely. So he'd know wjat it'd be like to loose a love like me over hoe's, . So eventually I went no contact with him because It was more healthy on my end , he made his dession and cared less for my feelings. I was doing so well without his toxic ways , now he's reaching out to me asking when he can see me , not that summer is over. A few days ago i ended up getting got drunk and texted him and he was trying to get close to me since , he actuallytexed me prior a few times but i was doing so good ignoring him. However when i did reach out to him a few days ago he asked me where I was and if he could see me again. I was out that night with friends. And all my ex kept mentioning how his family misses me and continues to for me. Then asked again if he could see me. What does that mean? Is he trying to get back with me now that the summer is over or is he just trying to play with my head.
