Ex texted me happy birthday after breakup?

my ex broke up with me about five months ago due to some complicated things happening in our relationship. Long story short he didn’t feel loved anymore and our relationship just hit the end of its road. He moved on very quickly and started talking to some girl he met on the Internet. I honestly thought that I would never talk to him again and last week he sent me a text saying happy birthday and he hoped I was doing well. Turns out he’s not talking to this girl anymore. Deep down a part of me is happy that it didn’t work out for him and this girl. And bad wishful thinking that I hope maybe he’s starting to feel guilty about what happened between us. Am I thinking too into it? Why would he text me out of the blue after blocking me and leaving me after almost 5 years of dating? Is it bad that a part of me wants to hear from him again?

so my ex texted me again yesterday.

my friends have reached out to me but i haven’t responded been distant since the breakup happened and i don’t feel ready to talk to anyone about it really.

i guess one of those friends reached out to my ex asking about me. so my ex texted me saying this friend hasn’t heard from me and he asked how i was doing. later on he reached out again saying he hopes im doing well.

do i respond? if i do how would i? why would he be reaching out

Woah, that's a really complicated situation, girl. I can totally understand why you'd be feeling all kinds of mixed emotions about your ex texting you out of the blue like that.

It's totally normal to feel a little happy that his new thing didn't work out, even though that's probably not the nicest thing to admit. After being with someone for that long, it's gotta be hard to just flip the switch and not care at all about them, you know?

And I get why you might be wondering if he's feeling guilty or wanting to reconnect. Even though he broke up with you, that doesn't mean he's just erased all the history and feelings you two had. Relationships are messy, especially when they end.

At the same time, I wouldn't read too much into the birthday text. Guys can be pretty oblivious sometimes, and he might have just thought it was the polite thing to do, even if he's mostly moved on. Or he could be testing the waters to see if you're receptive to talking again.

The real question is, what do you want? Do you still have feelings for him and want to try again? Or has too much water gone under the bridge? Only you can decide if reconnecting is a good idea or if it's better to just leave the past in the past.

My advice would be to take some time to really think about what you want before responding. Don't let your emotions cloud your judgment, but also don't ignore them completely. Whatever you decide, make sure it's what's best for you, girl. You deserve to be happy, whether that's with your ex or on your own.
