How long to get over breakup? It’s been three years and I’ve found it still affects me …?

He was the first person I felt close to - both emotionally and physically. He was my best friend and we spent 5 years sharing every aspect of our lives together. We were so close we even had a made up language only we understood.

At the end, it ultimately didn’t work out as it was obvious we were on two very different paths and came from entirely different worlds.

I’m just still haunted by it all - feeling so intensely close to someone and then losing them almost overnight. Dol Ikara’s lyrics describe it perfectly, “Oh, but I nearly died … By a forest fire in your eyes.”

How do I get myself back? And will it ever happen?

Different paths as in how? You'll have to let go, you haven't let go that's why, that includes hope of it happening again, hope is good but hope must be let go in certain situations, if y'all don't keep contact anymore or he has another partner then acceptance that it's actually over is the best call.

Different people are on different schedules with this. I let it go basically immediately because if it ends one or both of us were unhappy. Why would I lament something like that ending?
