My girlfriend is addicted to a video game

Question

my girlfriend is addicted to a video game and its kind of starting to annoy the hell out of me

i play the game also but she spends about 6-9 hours a day playing it.

two nights ago she stayed up until 4 A:M playing the game we were on the phone but I just told her that I'm tired because she was barely listening to me and was always talking about what is happening in the game.

i don't care that she plays it but its getting really annoying how she would always talk about it... its like she is actually in the game.

we spend some great time together when I get her outside of her laptop because we actually talk and we go out have fun like dinner dates lunch dates movies etc.

its just I can't think of anything to get her to stop playing that damn game... I already talked about it with her but she said its because I have nothing to do at home but bull shit I told her she should get some sleep but she just stays up all night playing the game...i no because my friends tell me she is online 24/7 since they also play the game.

her addiction to the game is starting to down me even bothering keeping this relationship up.

any ideas or tips I can do for her to stop playing the game or at least have her sleep because playing a game from 6 pm straight to 4 am in the morning is just really really ...

Wow, I know how its like to be addicted to that game. I used to be an addict too until I cancelled my account and decided I needed to get a social life. :p

From what I've read, she's probably staying up all night for that game because she doesn't get to play it in the afternoon hanging with you. You're going to have to try and get her to realise that she needs some time out of that game and make her realise how much she's exhausting herself.

I can give you my experience as an example. My friends went out for war games and cycling early in the morning and I couldn't make it because I was up all night. So now every time I'm out with my friends, they keep talking about the fun times they had and I felt completely left out. They've been doin lots of activities and I was too tiered to go and it drove me crazy. I quit the game, and enjoyed the outdoors. I still play the game, but only in the afternoon when I have the time, but socializing always comes first now.

You can probably try to make her feel a little jealous and very left out for not making it to any of your fun activities all because she lacks some sleep. Get her surrounded by friends that all went to these activities and start talking about it like crazy. She might get pissed for making her feel left out, just explain to her that she should get out more and join the group. In other words..Make her miss socialising. And tell your friends not to see her in that game either. Make them move servers or something. One of the reasons that game is so addicting is because of the people in there.

My ex was constantly playing video games as well. I finally just outright told him, when hinting wasn't working, that if he wanted to see me, he would have to put the games away. I stopped texting, calling, talking online to him, and it pissed him off. He finally came to the conclusion that I was more important (granted not for all that long, but he had a very short attention span for anything that wasn't his video games) than the video games, he stopped playing as often as he had been.

Maybe cutting her off for a few days would do the trick. She'd realise that playing WoW as much as she does isn't worth risking your relationship.

Lol. I knew how did she felt. I'm addicted to the game too one time ago ~ But now someone just make me realised to get a social life. I stay awake all night when people were sleep just for that game. I ignored my real bestfriend and my family. I make it like it was my world. Sometimes I argue with my sister too because she told me to stay outdoor and stop playing with my laptop 24-hours. Since I got fight with my boyfriend and he makes me hurt I started to get my own life and stop playing that. Yea =D maybe you need to give her time for her to realised just like I did , One day.. she will leave that game. trust me.

It is very hard to stop an addicted player to stop playing.

1. You could try to cancel her account and sell it.. but she'll probably get super pissed at you. 2. Try to find activities that she might enjoy and try to get her hooked on that.

3. Maybe get her a multiplayer console game to kind of move her away from wow first. This way you can play a game and spend time with her.

4. Break her laptop but then she'll probably kill you...

5. Hide her laptop for a day to let her know life is still enjoyable without wow.

You didn't have to tell me it was WoW; I think it goes without saying.

Don't get me wrong, I like videogames as much as the next guy (or gal, I guess). But I too lost a few friends to the WarCrack. Case in point- I'd want to go get something to eat in college, ask my friends if they wanted to tag along (they had been playing for 12+ hours straight already) and they said "Naw, I'm in a good group", and then they wouldn't eat for another 12 hours, I'd go get something and bring it back to my room and eat alone, get sleep, and go to class. They didn't.

I don't know what it is about that game, but people get addicted to it. I seriously think it is a disorder that needs to be recognized by the professionals.

But I think you'll agree with the following statements:

1. You are not getting what you think you want out of your relationship with her.

2. It's good and important that she has an interest outside of you. She has a hobby, some "friends", etc.

3. She is taking WoW to an unhealthy level.

4. It's not good to look like a needy wuss.

That's what I get down to- I don't know how to deal with this in a way that will end up good for you. What I can tell you is this- it is NEVER a good thing to look like a needy wuss by giving ultimatums, sabotaging her/etc. Although I personally don't see any way that you can approach her and intervene without doing just that.

ok really I have found the best way to get them tired and make it so they arnt addicted to wow is just let them play but make them play even more hardcore. after a while they start getting bored of it and eventually they will play for about 3-5 hours a day or stop completely. that's what happened with me I still play but when I get a girlfriend that I care about I will probably let wow burn in hell...lol

oh and BTW the more you tell her to stop playing it the more she will play it. its human nature to do the complete opposite of what people tell you.

well first off I'm proud of being smart enough not to play that fukin game cause I know ill get addicted. but then again I am a diehard addict for css: zombie mod, garry's mod, and a little left 4 dead. but I'm only 16 and I don't got a girlfriend =D. but I still only play once a week at an internet cafe to help suppress my addiction. I only play 8 hours but its enough to help me relax. I suggest doing what that one girl said and hide her laptop, cancel her account, or break her laptop lol.

World of Warcraft is like the most addicting game on earth.
I think that you've done the right thing.
When she can't stop, it's absolutely okay to break up.

Expecially when you tell her that you would do it when she doesn't stop.
I mean like giving her a warning or something like that.

I've thought about how cool it would be to have a girlfriend that plays video games.

Ok first of all.. World of Warcraft is the most addicting online game... The only I can suggest is that you take her out her to eat or ask her if she wants to watch a movie or something.  I know its really hard to get someone off that game because my aunty still plays the game 24/7 and she goes to school... She'll put the game first before her kids.

Don't feel bad try being engaged and LIVING with her and all she does is get on some fantasy life computer game called IMVU from the time she wakes up til the time she goes to bed only gets off to either eat or go to the bathroom.
