Why do many women prefer dark and tall guys more than light and short guys?

Are there any scientific explanation why dark and tall guys are very popular among many women?
Example of dark, tall and handsome men many women likes.

Handsome is a given.

Tall might be analogous to hypergamy, except applied towards physical attributes rather than social caste. A towering figure might have been best fit to survive throughout most of the millions of years of evolution (overall increased strength, e. g.), or best fit to lead in terms of social impact if people are literally looking up to him.

Dark seems completely arbitrary to me. It might just be a cultural aesthetic that's a result of social conditioning rather than natural instinct. The only wild conjecture I could even entertain and it might be completely idiotic is if genetic relatedness tended to be higher towards dark for most than light, like if there's more mixing going on usually to produce those features in a way that establishes a higher genetic relatedness to most of the human population. Then again genetic relatedness is only typically used to make a case for altruism. I'm not sure it has any basis in attraction, since diversity should be favored, at least to some degree, for survival.

On the tall side, we know increased physical strength was a fundamental part of biological fitness for the male side of the species, since the males evolved to develop much more of it than the females. There must have been great periods throughout human history where survival for the male side required physical strength for whatever reason. Being taller naturally gives one a natural disposition to having greater physical strength than one who is short. So just from the biological fitness factor, that might support why tall is instinctively favored to short.

I'm short (5'7) so that makes me a bit sad. :-D That said, us males might be able to trick females by wearing shoes that make us look taller.

Us males are also evolved to favor females with a 45 degree arch to the lower spine. It's what makes for these shapely-looking protruding butts of whatever size. That's almost unanimously favored among the male population, and I read a study suggesting that it's because women with that type of spine and tilt to the pelvis can more easily move about and function while pregnant, improving their chances of survival throughout long periods of human history.

However, most girls today don't have that degree of spinal arch. But they can present the illusion that they do by wearing high heels.

Because there are more dark and tall women because there are more Latinas and black women than Norwegian ones.

People like what they like, no matter how perfect you are you might still end up alone. I love tall white men with rectangular faces like Nick Bateman, my preference was tall dark and handsome because I'm a brown girl, but my preference changed over time through maturity and also through meeting a persistent white guy I gave a chance and found out they are better match for me, if she likes you her preference will change.

I always forget when people say "tall, dark, and handsome" they aren't talking about dark skinned people but dark haired people. I'm guessing it's a preference, I'm sure there are women who like light hair on men regardless. of height and I'm sure there are women who like shorter guys regardless of hair color.

When I'm discussing "tall, dark and handsome" with other women, I do imagine a tall good looking man with dark hair, eyes and a bit tan. They can be European, Asian, North-African etc. as long they are dark haired and dark eyed. They doesn't need to be brown/dark skinned and can be pale, but most of the time I thinks at tan men when I hear "tall, dark and handsome".

When I hear "tall, dark, and handsome" I always picture a black man, but maybe because that's my preference. But usually when other people show me what they mean they show me someone who is more often than not, white with dark brown or black hair, with the slightest tan. You're right though it can really apply to any kind of guy with what can be considered dark features.

We have an innate desire to mate with the most virile and strongest men so our babies are strong and healthy, able to survive difficult circumstances. Dark skinned men generally represent the most naturally virile of all men and the height just amplifies the package.

I don't know really. I don't think there's a scientific explanation. Maybe they are just more often portrayed as being more masculine and mysterious (just like blond women are portrayed as being sexier and brunettes being smarter).

I think I've read there is some link -within- genetic groups between pigmentation and testosterone.

Oh well, I'm one out of two, I guess I go with that ;)

My boyfriend is average height, and is super pale and rosy cheeked. Same with most of the male actors that I like. I'm really short though, so even short guys are taller than me.

In France it's more 50 / 50 no real preference for a brown hair guys or blond.
I think they prefer tall guys because it made them feel protected.

It's "masculine". Like blonde haired women are seen as more girly I guess.
I don't have a preference when it comes to hair, eye and skin color, all can look great.
