Guys, Boyfriend said he prefers "natural hair"?

I recently dyed my hair black because he told me to, and I didn't even want the color black, I wanted dark brown. Today he was complimenting how beautiful my hair looks and I smiled. Right after he says "I prefer natural hair though" like what the fuck? Now I'm so upset and he's over here acting upset saying he doesn't mean it. Like that was so fucking rude. Like what does he even mean by that? He's the one who told me to even dye it black in the first place?
