If the actual heights in the particular scenario were 5'3 and 5'10, I'd choose the 5'3 girl because I am 5'6 and my partner must be shorter than me.

Even if you altered the scenario to be say 5'2 vs 5'5, I'd choose the 5'2 one because although both are shorter than me, I'd feel more secure with the 5'2 one. With the 5'5 girl I'd feel like I just barely passed her cut-off, whereas with the 5'2 girl I'd feel like I was more capable of satisfying the typical female fantasy (you know exactly what I mean). I'd feel like I "passed" by a larger margin.

This is true up until about 5'0. I'm not sure I would date a girl shorter than 5'0. At 4'11 or shorter, most people's proportions start to look a bit off, and she'd seem too "childlike".
