Why does my baby daddy care who I date?

So, my baby daddy always tells me that he wants me to be happy but when I meet someone new and begin to move on. He messages them and tells them that I am crazy and if I was such a catch he would still be with me. They eventually get scared away and start ignoring me because they do not want to deal with baby mama/ baby daddy drama. Then he says, "see nobody wants you because your a worthless whore". I don't get why he does this, if he doesn't want me that why won't he let me move on? Recently, I started talking to one of his mutual friends and he did this. He went as far as telling his friend that if he dates me he will date his friends baby mama, and that I didn't actually like him and that I was just trying to date his friend to get back at him. He keeps telling his friend that he is not his real friend for wanting to date me and begging him to not give me a chance but in person he says he is happy for us.

It's a controlling tactic. He doesn't want you, but he doesn't want you to move on either.

His friend is a really good guy and we have so much in common but I don't think we will work out because my baby daddy will keep telling him something and causing drama

If he's the same dude as another question you had, he's an asshole. If he wasn't an assholes, you'd still be together.
Nothing you've said shows he's a nice guy.

Also, perhaps stay away from associated people to him. Controlling, jealousy and an asshole is not a good mix. Plus most tend to stick to their own. So doubt this new dude would work out too. Don't let him be a dickhead, and get him to pay for his child. Take him to court.

I guess you're right. The child support thing is easier said then done though because I have to prove he has a job and makes a income. He doesn't work, well not a real job and gets paid under the table. So, what am I going to get $25 or less a month because he has another child with a girl he had a one night stand with but that's a whole other story.

Uh. Dont let him stop you from dating unless you guys are back together. And warn the guy you're dating about him. He doesn't own you or your decisions cuz of your kid. But I think I've delved too deep into this, you know what to do lady.
