Today he told me he some space for the day and cancelled plans to hang out. What does this mean?

He might not be willing to wait. Some will and some won't. I hope he hangs in there but if not it was good he exited now and not when you were more attached. It was good that you were honest. It was the best thing you could do. I assume you are in therapy.
