Is having sex with a total stranger really awkward?

I met this guy on Bumble and we’ve been talking through text. He’s really cute and seems like a nice guy but yesterday he told me “Hey sorry for the late reply but I feel like we want different things”. I was giving him the impression that I wanted something more personal because I had been asking to hangout. I was confused by his text so I said “ So you don’t wanna hookup?” Then he said “ Haha I was getting the vibe you wanted something more personal”. I replied with “I can see how I was giving off the wrong impression but I’m not looking for anything personal rn to be honest”. Then he said “ Well in that case we should definitely hangout soon”. I just got out of a 6 year relationship and I really want a rebound but I’ve only had sex with my ex. He asked me for my address last night bc he wanted to pick me up but I’m out of town for the weekend. He was like “ahh nvm” but then he texted me this morning “Hey you” and then he was asking me when I’m free. What do you guys think of the situation? I’ve heard it can be really scary having sex with a stranger from friend s. How do I make this less awkward lol. I also think I’d be more comfortable FaceTiming him first but how should I bring it up without it being weird.
