Hood - Getto nomenclature for "Getto."
If you're seeking to be on good terms with this person, by emulating their mannerisms and behaviors, well in the hood, they got a word for that. It's a slur, and I'm not going to use it, because it's not a very flattering one.
I'm a pasty white boy, who has had to use my fist to communicate ideas and concepts that my well-spoken manner seems to have miscommunicated, which is basically - "I'm not a marshmallow, so don't piss me off!!!" "Just because I have the complexion of a marshmallow, doesn't mean I fight like one."
You know how a wolf goes around pissing on everything to mark his territory? For better or worse that's me, no matter what neighborhood I've been in, and I've been into some pretty nasty places Cadillac Heights Districts in Detroit, Wealthy and Division area on Grand Rapids, and some of the worst places in Vegas you can possibly imagine, and don't even get me started on the slum districts of Guatemala, El Salvador, Soul, Bangkok, Saigon, Ann Ann Arbor, Flint, Whyohaa, etc. I show respect when it's warranted, the business end of my boots in someone's keister, when it's not.
My point, and it's a point you might want to consider very thoroughly, is that I think you are going about this whole thing the wrong way, by trying to change who you are, and how you behave, to impress someone, which never ends well for anyone, under any circumstance.
In this situation, imitation is not the highest form of flattery, and could actually be interpreted as condescension or disrespect.
Be yourself. Be proud of who you are, and respectful of who he is, and if you can strike that balance between the two, then as long as neither one of you has a big ego to get in your way of having a good time, you should be good to go.
Use your best judgment, but personally, I don't see the benefit of throwing the word "Hood" around a lot, while you're out with this person and his friends.
You just talk like you, you are not from the hood.
So assuming you can understand anything he is saying perhaps you could ask him what he calls the corona virus for me because its been on my mind.
