If you can afford one you can probably afford both. Personally I think boats are more fun, airplanes are more impressive though.

Honestly, it's a common misconception. An airplane is really not as expensive as it appears. I bought mine (C152) for 20K. Most of my coworkers have trucks which cost three times that much. And the dude's boat is an older model he spent 5K. The responsibility in owning such things is the challenge.
