Two possible reasons I could think of:

One: when your grandpa tells you about how if you looked at a white woman the wrong way during the Jim Crow era you got your balls cut off, it makes you wonder (at some level) what white men were guarding so jealously.

Two: even relative to their majority white beauty is displayed more by the media and it influences everyone's mind the same no matter what skin color that they have.
