Employing a United States sample of 5,810 Yahoo heterosexual internet dating profiles, this study finds race–ethnicity and gender influence body type preferences for dates, with men and whites significantly more likely than women and non-whites to have such preferences. White males are more likely than non-white men to prefer to date thin and toned women, while African-American and Latino men are significantly more likely than white men to prefer female dates with thick or large bodies. Compatible with previous research showing non-whites have greater body satisfaction and are less influenced by mainstream media than whites, our findings suggest Latinos and African Americans negotiate dominant white idealizations of thin female bodies with their own cultures’ greater acceptance of larger body types.

However, the prevailing theory is that thicker women are healthier and can provide better children, especially women with wide hips. Throughout most of human history, thicker women meant healthier and better able to give childbirth and survive it. The idea that skinny women are attractive is only a recent thing in history because skinny women correlates to wealth and higher social status, which is why only the wealthiest races (white and Asians) tend to usually like skinny women and even among them, it's usually only middle class and higher men of those races (working-class white and Asian men have been shown to also prefer thicker women over skinny ones).

In short, socioeconomics and health.

Probably because their women are curvy. It's the same thing with Latinos and I noticed it among some Middle Eastern/North African guys too, Latina and Middle Eastern/Northern African women can be curvy.
And Korean guys seem to like slim girls (like their girls) more.

It might relate to how black women tend to be curvier in general. I found the same with some Hispanic men. I have a friend who is Hispanic and he's a bit rude and says Japanese women here look like teenage boys with their small breasts and small butts. I think he needs his eyes checked sometimes but I think his preference comes from how many Hispanic women he grew up with have much fuller and more voluptuous bodies than Japanese women.

I would assume that in regions where obesity is the norm (as other reports indicate) it's some kind of survival instinct: ''before I go hungry, I'll rather eat junk food''?
