Only because of that one word? No, that is not normal, it is weird but not wrong at all if you wish to block them.

I don't know how correct I am about you but if I read in between the lines then I think you are a serious type of woman who doesn't joke and is not funny and you are not fond of people who are funny either. When you speak you have a serious to it.

The word LOL is mostly used in a joking way, in lighter sense and by people who have a funny side to it. I can understand why must dislike such people because they think what you say is funny when the fact is you are never funny or jovial.

I also dislike that word but blocking is an extreme thing to do. In my view, it is best to just ignore them and not talk to them. They won't bother you. I am sure.

In my view, blocking should be done if someone is resorting to harass you online or stalk you etc. Blocking should be the last resort.

I apologize for going off track but yes you can block them if you want. People will think you are weird but that is fine, there is nothing wrong with being weird, strange.

No, it is absolutely not normal for you to want to block someone just because they sent a "lol", but you have got to give us more context here. Have they been replying with only "lol" to your text? Have they been annoying you by bombarding your phone with thousands of "lol (s)"? Or did they just reply to your text with one "lol"? I use "lol" when I do not know what to reply. Ignoring is fine, maybe change the topic. Why would you want to block them? That's ludicrous. If you do not want to keep talking to them, just be direct. Do not find silly reasons to block them.

What was this person saying lol about? If it was something really serious (like a death or something like that) then you have every right to block that person. But if it was over something that's not so serious then there's no reason for you to do that. Texting is supposed to be fun and playful but I wouldn't want someone saying "lol" if something really unfortunate happened to me or someone else I care about

I understand and you make good points. However, some people dislike that and especially if they are not of the funny type.

I mean it can make them think that the other person thinks they are funny and is disrespecting them by using that word. People who are serious and don't use humor while texting, I mean if they are totally straightforward, honest and up to the point then these type of people won't like it if someone uses that term often while texting because to them it will look as if they are not being serious about the conversation and other person is disrespecting them in some way.

Even I am like that. I am always serious, honest and straightforward and I totally dislike that term but I won't block someone based on this alone. I may choose to not interact with them or limit my interaction depending on the situation but not blocking.

Blocking to me is the last resort.

Coming to the question there are no details in the question so we don't know what happened or is the just the other person normally using the word "LOL". Based on the question (minus details) it would be unfair/weird to block but it is the user's choice after all. Blocking isn't wrong and sometimes it is the best thing to do.

@serious Yeah I think in certain situations it's okay to block someone. But I think blocking someone for no legit reason or not giving the person an explanation is wrong. I was blocked (or at least I think I was) by someone who I liked and thought was my friend but he didn't even give me an explanation. I went out with him and I thought we were on good terms and then he suddenly cut contact and stopped responding to me. I didn't like that at all. But I understand that if someone overuses "lol" then it can become very annoying
