Will he eventually get over the are difference? Am u being played?

I'm 33, and the guy I been kind of talking to is 51. We both already admitted we like each other a lot. However, we were supposed to go on a date but he said our age difference will be an issue later on. We talk almost everyday about everything, we both look forward to talking each other. Will he get over the age difference eventually or is this a lost cause? I asked him recently what he wanted out of this was his response: "Ultimately in my life I want to find someone to settle down with. I know I've told you this before. Our age would definitely be an issue eventually. I love the friendship that we have and I look forward to talking to you every day, I love that. I wish it could be more but I think our age difference would be a problem eventually. I think we would get a long great. We would be good. I think in the long run our age would be an issue. Not fair to you." I did tell him that the fair part is my decision not his to make, but haven't heard from him about that yet. Is this just a lost cause?

He's also said I've restored his faith in humanity. He was starting to believe there weren't many good people in the world.
