Why would a guy get insecure/jealous of his girlfriend/wife talking to an ugly guy?

I don't get it. It doesn't make sense. I am an ugly guy. There is this woman, at one of the places where I work. We know each other for a while, and I was talking to her. She was on the roof of the apartment complex (it is a rich place). Her boyfriend got pissed that we were talking to each other and assumed the most stupidest shit. Why on earth would his mind go that direction, when I am an ugly guy? It is logical sense that nothing of what he is assuming, would happen between his girlfriend and I.
