Yes and no, it’s about having a persona, personality, compatibility and an understanding of each other.

the more boxes a person ticks in regards to personality type and often importantly hobbies and interests, then you usually get a closer emotional bond.

there is a lot of depth to it all, for me confidence, individuality, independence, sense of humour, her own person, feisty / fiery all build up that person.

at times we want to either date out selves or our opposites.

We absolutely do care. Not neccessarily to say we have a strong preference but it is a defining trait of how people, and most importantly we ourselves, view you.

A girl absolutely does not need to match me. I tend to appreciate the simple fact that she has personality and character. After all if I wanted to date myself I can do that just fine, rarely what people want.

I think so. My favorite is the "natural" aesthetics like owning lots of plants, brown/warm type color pallets, maybe into healthy food or outdoor activities or self-sufficiency yknow? I don't match them, but they're a very alluring type of girl. Although some have a superiority complex but some are very down to earth.
