Lots of factors could be playing here maybe he thought his breath stink, maybe you had it too. Also maybe The lip gloss / lipstick was bothering him , maybe had a toothache or he just wasn’t in the mood to French kiss at that Particular time

I'm sure he would have liked it, probably just felt too much moisture left from saliva and had to dry it a bit. Figure it a good connection and don't read bad into it.
