+1 yI wouldn't say publicly available information and finding that out is stalking. Now digging into private stuff that is not easily available would be and I do not do that, never have.
Checking someone online to make sure they are NOT MARRIED is a good thing to avoid dating any married men again. Also like to know if they are a convict too... for stuff that I'd have issues with, which isn't everything just a few things.
What's funny though is most people that have public stuff available want followers, and I do calling "following" someone stalking them... cause people literally want to see everything they post.00 Reply

+1 yMy whole life I've had a thing against doing that but I've slowly been changing my mind I think.
I'm not saying that I would look someone up on Google and try to find every little thing but if I go on her Instagram I can catch a lot of possible red flags.00 Reply
I think the "non-voluntarily given public information" and "private information" are two separate things. There's nothing wrong with trying to gain information from someone by googling them as long as their privacy doesn't get violated.

+1 yI only searched one woman that I was messaging with regularly on a different website.
Everyone was saying that she was a catfish so I just searched her full name and typed in the area that she told me she lives.
She was real, and she was shocked when I told her how much information there is available about her from a simple search.10 Reply13.6K opinions shared on Dating topic. Nah. I give them a shot if they're not smart enough to see what an asset I am to their life that's on them. Why would I want to entertain someone that dumb?
( and this isn't arrogance. I don't put myself above anyone. I just believe in surrounding yourself with healthy relationships. People who lift you up, not break you down. Life is hard enough without you actively making it harder on yourself).10 ReplyYes I do, I do my own homework because I’m not into blindly liking someone I want to know more about who they really are so I don’t waste my time and energy. Some people are so desperate for a spouse they’ll keep their head in the sand just so they don’t have to be single. Nope not me I will kick your weird/lying ass to the curb so better hope you have no skeletons to find on the internet

+1 yKind of did when I was a teenager. I would search their social media and weed through it and see all their photos and such.
At some point I just got over it, I would hope to say I matured in that way.10 Reply
+1 yAbsolutely I have, and it has served me well!
But I don’t call it stalking, I call it research and doing your homework! Finding out what the person is like before investing your time on someone.
Unfortunately it’s 100% necessary these days!12 Reply- +1 y

+1 yWell, online stalking is not necessarily bad thing according to me. People post information for others to see. If I'm stalking someone, it only means I'm looking at information which was voluntarily posted by them. Tbh, it helps us to create a first impression about a person and will definitely help us talk to them with ease as we can know about their interests and dislikes through what they post. But, everything has a good side and bad side to it and it entirely depends on the person who's stalking and their intentions (why they're stalking and how they plan to use the information gained).

+1 yOnly once with a guy I matched with on a dating app. He only told me his first name but he was military and his last name was visible on his uniform. Like I said it was only once that I did this but I was glad I did it. Turns out he was married with kids. I cut off contact and reported it to the app. Not a homewrecker.
00 Reply As a general rule, I don't stalk. Just not enough time in my day for that crap. I do, however, investigate business situations. My non-business social media footprint is VERY small.

+1 yYes. Just to learn a bit about them to make sure they're not a psychopath like the women I've known in the past. Turns out, a lot of women are in my opinion psychopaths in one way or another. Good thing I look into them first so that I can prevent myself from catching feelings for an Amber Heard figure
00 Reply 8K opinions shared on Dating topic. No, the internet was not a thing when I was dating. I did all my stalking in person.

+1 yI usually try not to do that cause I see it as a violation of privacy but occasionally my curiosity overwhelms me
10 Reply 391 opinions shared on Dating topic. Here's a better question, why is it that when a guy stalks a girl online,... women get immediately beyond creeped out and automatically take the measures to insure a guy doesn't stalk her again by having the police involved and so on, but if women stalk the guys who they are interested in,... apparently this is acceptable?
10 ReplyI don't think that count as stalk. Stalking someone is literally traspassing any legal limit to gather information about that someone or that person of interest.

I amm guilty of looking up someone's name on FB to see if they were married. And, it turns out, they are, sadly for me. mI was so sure they were not, but I proved myself wrong. :(((

+1 yI run a basic google search on every woman I date. I do not go deep into stuff. I am just looking to see if she made the news for anything crazy. Most people do not go far enough out of their way to keep criminal history from reaching google.
05 Reply- +1 y
Criminal records are public information, unless those records have been sealed or they were a minor.
- +1 y
@Subarugirl They are public record, but that does not mean private action is not allowed to be taken to block it. For example, when a record is public, that is in court records. That does not mean a search engine has to record the result. Getting access to public court records can still be a cumbersome process so if a person can get the results taken off a search engine then anyone wanting to look them up has to jump through more hoops
- +1 y
Not really it's pretty easy to find someone's mug shot online with out jumping through hoops. And doing a background check on someone isn't that expensive, and can be done online pretty easily.
- +1 y
@Subarugirl My criminal history is hidden from search engines. I've tried googling myself lol
- +1 y
Right but with you age, first and last name and the city and state you live in I could pretty easily do a back ground search..
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yI have tracked down nearly every single person on GaG I have ever interacted with. I’m shocked by the number of pink anon accounts who belong to middle aged men. There is a correlation with the guys who act tough on here who also have been in long term relationships that end with cheating.
