Would you consider someone you met online as someone you 'know'?

whether it's someone you met on a dating app, or a friend you somehow made online from another country for example, would you consider them a proper friend that you'd add on social media? would you tell your friends about them?

or do you think people you meet online aren't the same as someone you know from school or work or through someone you met in person?

let's say you met someone online & they live close to you & you've met them a lot of times & still meet up with them regularly. would you add them on social media & start considering them like you would the rest of your friends you know from in person?

No I do not ever think I really know someone if I have not met them in person, so therefore anyone I met only online is not a true friend to me.

With that said I have work friends, I have on line friends, I have face book friends and sure I consider them friends to some degree... but they are not my friend friend for real. So in todays world I think you have to keep that clear in your own head by making those distinctions for yourself.

To make a point. I love peanut butter. Like I love it!!! But I can not talk to peanut butter, date it or do much of anything with peanut butter but eat it.

So when say I love my girlfriend does that means I only love her as much as I love peanut butter, or does it mean I love peanut butter less?

There are friends then there are friend, friends.. and every relationship has different levels of trust and meaning... that's really up to you to decide for yourself.

Sometimes you can meet somebody online and have a real connection. Sometimes it is easier to share the intimate details of your life with somebody on line. after a while it becomes a real relationship and you really do get to "know" that person.

Yes it can be considered as knowing but in a limited way. To properly know them meeting in real life is a must.

Maybe loosely. I mean you do "know" them. But the fact that you've only talked to them kinda means you only "know" what they WANT you to know about them. The entire person could be a lie. So I probably wouldn't use the the words "someone I know"

Far from it, I'm near blind without body language + eye contact. I can observe MUCH more this way, things people tend to try to hide.

Yeah. I know a lot of online people better than I know in-person people. Our relationships are much deeper.

And it can be easier to open up with people you meet online and you could definitely get to know them better. So sure. Nothing beats my friendships IRL tho
