What topics are the best for a first date with someone you have just met?

As an inexperienced person, I could really use some advice on this! lol

Topics that aren't uncomfortable or cringe-y.

I'm going this upcoming Friday on a first date with a guy whom I have met just recently on a gas station when he asked if I needed any help, we somehow got into conversation and bought each other a coffee. :D Then he asked me if I'd like to meet again and I said yes and where would I like to go, I said I like to eat and I have a favorite bistro in town so yeah we're going there.

ALSO — should I sit next to him or face to face?
— and should I text him before the date something like "I'm excited and you?"... ?

A question regarding an outfit is probably incoming as well lol

Ask what he likes to do in his spare time; what his future looks like to him; what he's learned from past relationships (without getting into details of those experiences); what he values most about different types of relationships; and any other curiosities you may have. Ask open-ended questions rather than those that can be answered in one or two words, as closed-ended questions can lead a person to feel interrogated.

It's easier if you are facing him, though the angle in the photo also works. Side-by-side is less than ideal, as you'll end up with whiplash from looking at your food in front of you and not wanting to miss any body language from him.

Just wear something comfortable and not too revealing. Never dress to impress, as he'll feel you are hiding something. Be subtle with all aspects he experiences with you. Let him learn about you rather than be overwhelmed by anything you use to impress.

Keep things light and playful. Make sure everything is enjoyable for both of you.

Work, hobbies, and interests are all good topics. You can try something like "favorite ice cream" or "favorite pizza topping" as an icebreaker.
At some point you should discuss what you're looking for in dating - where you hope things will go if the date goes well.

I skip to teenage year hobbies even if its embarrassing LOL. If you are brave enough to respond I know we gonna get along for a long time as I am more than happy to laugh at the dumb stupid things I did growing up.
