Is this a rejection or she is playing games?

Hello dear community hope that you are doing well :)
I've known a girl at my university for a while who was very nice and kind to me. She would walk pass me and say hi with a smile! This happened like 3 times and since she is studying another major we don't have any common modules so we didn't have any interaction before I talked to her twice and it went well!
As I told you we don't study the same major and I had not seen her for while so I decided to dm her. I told her that I like her but since I'm shy and I don't see her too often I decided to text her and I would like to know her better etc and asked her out.
And this was her reply:
Hey thank you for asking currently I'm very restricted and I can't date anyone but I appreciate your honesty and I hope you are doing well.
Now my question is what is she on about?
Is this a rejection? Or she is playing games? I'm so confused because she was the one who initiated the interaction at the first place.

Just because someone walks past, smiles and says hello does not mean they want to date. That could just be her personality and her being nice. Not every little gesture a girl gives is an invitation to date or flirt.

When she told you she isn't open to dating, I don't take that as a game. Quite the opposite. She is being very direct that she is not currently wanting to see/date anyone. Perhaps it is her own personal values at the moment.

It could also be because of school or other commitments and she doesn't feel like she has the time to put forth enough effort for a relationship. I would just remain friendly with her and accept that she isn't into dating right now.

That could all change in the future and if you have maintained a friendship, that could work to your advantage.

I get what you mean but as I said we had nothing to do with each other until she approached me and talked about her personal stuff goals and plans and so on. That's weired way to make friends ain't it?

Eh, maybe to you and others but everyone is different, right? Perhaps that is just her style. I don't think she is playing games with you though. She was pretty straightforward about her not being into dating from your details.

Worth maybe keeping that friendship alive. You never know if a person will change their mind. The better relationship you have with her, the better the chance if she does decide she wants to date. You don't have to go crazy but just remain friendly is my advice.

Treat her like a platonic friend: a fellow batchmate. Don't think too much about relationship. If she wants you, she will let you know it somehow (hopefully).

Plus ask yourself: at this stage, do you really need a relationship?
