Girl I've been talking with tells me I should get a girlfriend?

So this girl I've met in person for some weeks (now she is back in her home place but she has been invested in keeping the conversation going through messages and videocalls) now asks me if I am single and tells me that I should get a girlfriend?

Even though she has never asked me directly if I was single before, it's plenty obvious that I am single, even if only by the availability I have to be talking to her, and it's unlikely she has not noticed my interest in her. It strikes me as very odd that she would ask that to me now.

Secondly, why is she telling me to look to get a girlfriend? Has she now lost interest in me and is now letting me know indirectly she is no longer into me by saying that, for me to look somewhere else?

There could be a number of reasons she said "get a girlfriend" and one of them could be the one that you mentioned. Maybe she has lost interest since she is back home and you are limited to video chats and calls/texts. LDRs are tough to maintain and maybe she is just being realistic.

It also could be other reasons. Perhaps she is still very much interested and wanted to see your reaction to that. If you said "no way, I really like you" she might have been looking for reassurance that you were interested even though she was not around anymore.

It also could be that she just views you (and always has) as a friend and there weren't romantic feelings ever. That is entirely possible. You see it different since you liked her but perhaps she never wanted to be more than friends and this is her somewhat odd way of showing it.

She should have made her intentions and feelings a bit more clear as opposed to playing games, if that is what she is doing. Why not just have a chat with her about everything and see what she has to say rather than guess?
