What does a guy mean when he calls me HEY?

I'm 31(Korean) and he is 28(Aussie). We met online. We've been seeing for 8 weeks now. We kissed, cuddled and had sex already. We haven't had the exclusive talk.

I know his name and he knows my Eng name&Korean full name. But when we text, he always calls me 'Hey'. Like... hey what are you doing?, hey I miss you etc.

Should I assume he thinks me just as a friend? Or it means nothing?

I think I know what you mean I’m not Asian ( Korean) I’m European and dated an American in my case and when messaging with him I noticed things that in my culture are not appropriate or sounds rude.
I know you want him to message you as in “ hello Anna / hi Anna , or simply hi how are you “ etc !
To me hey means he is confident with you and feels free. But if it bothers you you can always ask him to refer at you with an hi and your name bc “ you like it when he mentions your name “ etc like try this trick to see if he changes.

It's just another term for saying "hello" or "hi", but less formal than "hello" . I often say "hey" to friend in a text.

Hey is another way of saying Hello. I'm Aussie and hey is very commonly said here. Hey is probably said more than hello. So he isn't calling you Hey.

It definitely would be a cultural difference. I say hey all the time when at work greeting people and i work in a multicultural work environment. Even family and friends we would all say hey as well. Sometimes we can be lazy with pronouncing words, for example many of us instead of saying afternoon we will shorten it to arvo. Some will pronounce Brisbane Australia as Brissy or we will call Western Australia WA
