What are the stages of modern dating?

As someone that has dated the “old school” way I find this modern dating concept confusing, how do you structure the dating scene starting from talking all the way up to relationship and what should you expect at each stage?

Traditional dating - you mean someone like a family member or friend introduces a trusted close friend to you? No I don't think modern dating has anything like that anymore.

It is now more along the lines of you load up an app and take your pick. OR hang out with friends and find someone like a colleague at college, a friendship/workshop group or the workplace. A lot of the times it can be spontaneous however - things just happen (which I have experienced and have to say was fun). Most people really are just winging it as they go along. There's no set structure to it other than just getting to know the other person well enough that you can put a trust into each other to start a relationship (if that is what both parties want at the end).

Some people prefer to watch a movie on their first date. Others maybe spend time at a bar, restaurant, park or coffee shop. It really depends on the two parties, what they like or prefer and how each of them deal with each other. One thing for sure that dating in modern times has been made easier is how easy it is for one to get hold of the other party compared to the past because of the messaging apps. In the past like you'd have likely had to call someones home on landline in order to get hold of them for a date - by which point the other parties whole family would have been made aware (making it a rather embarrassing thing at times). Now it is all a lot more private because everything is done via the app.

Speaking from personal experience I was for example already holding hands and getting intimate with someone I met at a 2nd meeting on one of my previous dates. At the time we were just purely messaging each other on a daily basis after our first meeting. Some may take an extra date or two before anything that happens (or nothing at all). So it varies between person to person.

First date - something fun and easy to get to know one another

Second date - something formal and/or romantic

Third date - hold hands, possibly kissing, discussion on relationship

Kind of goes from there... doesn't always follow this plan, but part of dating is learning to read your partner and determining compatibility so no one size fits all formula can apply here.

Talk to someone as friends, if you guys have developed interest in each other try setting up a date, if it goes well you get a chance to go on another one, if it doesn’t go as planned stay friends (or not it depends on the awkward level), go on a third or fourth date and if they go well keep at it, at some point you or both of you will hopefully be ready to talk about dating exclusively, that’s when you continue dating but more as a couple who know each other more, continue dating and learning about each other, sooner or later depending on you or the other you guys will decide if you want to take it to the next level whether that’s sex or moving in together or he’ll even marriage. The thing is tho is that every relationship moves differently depending on the two individuals involved.

I know for a fact that me and my boyfriend kinda skipped the get to know you stage as we kinda already liked each other we went on our first date 6 months after we started dating exclusively so.

1. You meet at school, functions or online sites.

2. Meet somewhere. You listen to what he/her has to say and this person has a lot to say. He/she talks and talks about themselves. The conversation is all about him/her and you don't say much of anything.

3. He/she pressures you into having sex.

4. The next day the person ghosts you.

5. That's about 1 year of therapy, once a week at $100 each time.

No idea at all about stages of anything. But I would say that the world is full of people with different situations and opinions, so stay loose and be true to yourself...
I'm sure it's a different world than when I was in active pursuit, but people are still people.
