Is it common for the man to still help even if we ask him out on a date?

I've asked out two men on a date. Both felt I had done enough by asking them out and insisted on helping with the bill. They didn't want me to pay it all.

They helped with more than half of the bill. I think both still wanted to feel like a man.

So this is still common isn't it?

If asking for the date is such an arduous task that it absolves women from any financial liability for the date, exclusively women would have been paying for meals long ago.

First dates should be split evenly regardless of who asked whom. If a man's ego is too fragile to handle that, it's their problem.

There is no such thing as "help" when it comes to money. "Help" is much too vague of a word. Make an arrangement. Cut a deal. But do not "help." "Helping" isn't helping.

Its very common in my opinion, and they both sound like gentlemen to me.
