Don't go for the things that she's counting on- it ruins the moment because she's expecting it. Surprise her. Remember the little things. It may not be a gift, but an experience.

I was close friends with a girl who loved astronomy and one time talked with me about how she was a little girl and watching the moon and stars for hours with a handheld telescope. She mentioned she lost the telescope when she was 10 years old. It was a short conversation but I remembered it.

Months pass by. I buy her a gift for a special occasion. She was expecting something "showy" or "romantic". No- I got her a nice, little handheld telescope. She burst out crying when she opened the gift- not because it was grand or showy- but because it made her feel like a little girl again.

Nothing Fancy but dated Valentine #1: A statement of feeling ground in critical logic that communicate warmth and affection... This eliminates "Needy" overtones.
