Oh... I was told something similar by people from the hospitality industry - they get to witness people parting ways on Valentine's like on no other day.
I... get guiltied for remotely wanting specifically whom I like the most - chances of her appearing. Well, let me not be a pessimist and let me leave it at that.
I could add 'it's a game of the never-previously-married matching our hat sizes and body colours' - and getting to see each other again (the event that is missing, for now).

Erm, they are not only demanding. They get demanding in order to be able to feel as at least good enough, even on a bad day (or worst of days they could see coming) - else why bother wasting time getting involved.

You have to remember most females are either physically weaker, monetarily poorer or of smaller barin volumes/lower IQs than some, or most (in the context of whom they hope to marry) guys.

I... well, girls make this mistake of overthinking such questions. If it were up to me I'd organise a common 'lonely for Valentine's' evening with the lonely males and females, me included.
I don't think it is anything to be shy about (my mind is on finding a partner for pregnancy, a virgin/never previously married preferably - there's a whole list of what the ideal would be like, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't talk to anyone who isn't the ultimate matching for me - nor that I wouldn't decide differrntly to my so-far-defined criteria).
Some of those that a close matching to the kind of female I'd want to start a female with seem so worked up and self-conscious (the whole 'would I be good enough' and 'would people actually let us be together _and_ get a pregnancy going' doubt) that I cannot estimate whether any will wake up from their... chaos? Anxiety? Worry? Something of that kind.
