Live and learn. I a a landlord if you signed that lease you are toast. It will be on your credit and the court filing will show too. Yo need to figure it out or find a trusted roommate. You mess this up and you might be able to get a room in boarding house in my area.
So few things. First, ensure that your roommate will let you move back in if it works out. That has to be done. You don’t wanna move out of your new place, and have no where to live.
Second, since you JUST got the new keys, I’d go to the landlord or leasing company, and BEG for them to let you out of your lease without penalty. Unless there is a grace period in your contract they aren’t obligated to let you out of your lease (as far as I’m aware), but it can’t hurt to ask.
Your next step if that doesn’t work, would be to figure out how much it’d cost to break the lease. Then decide if paying that is worth it for you.
Finally, your last step, would be to find a new roommate that could move in with you to help reduce the cost.
I guess if none of that works, your next option would be to potentially move out and stop paying. This is HIGHLY risky tho and could lead to major issues for you in the future. I’d do everything you possibly can to claw and dig your way out of this first.
Is it a one bedroom or two if two then rent out the other room if one and see if you could sublet it. You could also talk to the apartment complex and ask them if you could pay the first month and have them use that time to look for a new tenant
